Ensure the hoof is completely clean and dry before application.

Take a golf-ball-sized amount of ointment and work it between your fingers until soft and pliable (store in a warm place beforehand for easier handling in cold weather).

Press firmly around the pastern, then continue to cover the entire sole of the hoof (cover with paper/straw if needed, or use a pad prior to shoeing).

Remove thoroughly with a hoof pick before working the horse.
